You can use Mac OS X’s keyboard shortcut feature (in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences) to assign your own keyboard. If this keyboard shortcut doesn’t work in your application of choice, there’s always the low-tech method: Open a plain-text editor like Notepad, paste your text into it, and then select and copy the text.

Mac OS X and Apple’s keyboard offer some useful keyboard shortcuts via the use of the F-keys across the top of the keyboard. To paste without formatting in Word, you can use the special Paste option on the ribbon to “Keep Text Only.” You can also set Word’s default paste options to “Keep Text Only.” This keyboard shortcut unfortunately doesn’t work in Microsoft Word. Therefore, if you use Keep Text Only to paste that same paragraph with black font and several bold words into a location with red font, the entire paragraph will turn red and the bold words will lose the bold format. On a Mac, press Command+Option+Shift+V to “paste and match formatting” instead. Keep Text Only removes all formatting from the pasted text, including emphasis formatting, and then adds the formatting of the next location to the pasted text. It should work on Windows, Chrome OS, and Linux. This works in a wide variety of applications, including web browsers like Google Chrome. To paste without formatting, press Ctrl+Shift+V instead of Ctrl+V. Instead, you’ll need to use one of two shortcuts, depending on the operating system you’re using.
Pasting normally (or with Ctrl+V/Cmd+V) won’t do the trick. You’ll get just the text you copied as if you had typed it directly into the application you’re pasting it in. Enter the text field at the bottom of the chat, but don’t paste just yet.
You won’t have to spend time removing formatting elements from your document. No formatting means no line breaks, no different font sizes, no bolding and italics, and no hyperlinks. You can paste without formatting in nearly any application to get just the text without the extra formatting. It often brings along formatting from web pages and other documents. Copy-and-paste moves more than just text around.
